Listening report week 6 Spring II

Renting solar panels to save money

  1. Main idea – Home owners save money by renting  solar panels.
  2. Tone –  Entertaining, informative, interesting. He is introducing new thing to people, so he has to be informative and interesting. 
  3. Organization –2) One side of a controversy or issue is presented. 3
  4. Summary – The sun send energy through photons, the photons hit the solar panels and convert into electricity. The electricity goes into your electric box. The electric box will power all your devices. If your produce more energy than  you consume, the electricity will goes out to the grid and your electric meter will spin backward. That's how you save money. Beside saving money, the solar panels produce cleaned energy.

Calories: not all created equal

  1. Main idea – A study show that different types of thing you digest can have the same calories.
  2. Tone – Informative and Curious. The man kept asking the woman questions.
  3. Organization –  2) One side of a controversy or issue is presented.
  4. Summary –A study has showed that different types of food you consume can have the same amount of calories, but different affects. This study also showed us calories that are added from sugar can increase your heart diseases. By changing your meal correctly, it can help you improve your heart.
  5. Your opinion – Answer one of the following questions:   2)This video is very informative. It helped me to understand more what I am eating.

Listening report week 4 Spring II

Gene testing provides insight into disease risks

  1. Main idea –There more chances to identify your diseases with a gene test.
  2. Tone –  Informative and Optimistic. Because of discovering a gene test people can identify their diseases.
  3. Organization 2) One side of a controversy or issue is presented.
  4. Summary – A gene test can be very helpful to predict your diseases. Dr. John presented that with the identical genes of the twins, but likely more than 90% one twin developes cancer while the other doesn't. Your gene can be damaged by bad habits, such as smoking, environment. But getting a gene test doesn't cure cancer.
  5. Your opinion – Answer one of the following questions: 2) This story is very informative. I chose this video because my mom had cancer before.

Main idea – Women are practicing boxing in Afghanistan to prepare for this year Olympic in London.
Tone – Interesting and Curios.He kind of surprise when he find out that women are practicing a men sport in Afghanistan.
Organization – How is the news story organized? 2) One side of a controversy or issue is presented. Summary – Based on your answer for question 3, explain further.  The controversy is women are practicing boxing in Afghanistan. He brought us to one of the gym in Afghanistan to see how to the women do. Although boxing is a male sport, but in Taliban, Afghanistan woman are practicing boxing for the Olympics. Many difficulties are brought up. Mainly are training conditions, cultures.

Thousands of trees planted to test climate change

  1. Main idea – To test climate changes, researchers planted thousand of trees.
  2. Tone –Informative and curious. Because he still don't know what the results are.
  3. Organization – 2) One side of a controversy or issue is presented.
  4. Summary – Researchers planted thousand of trees to test climate changes. Many trees are planted in Eastern Europe and even California. The result will be out soon in another 50 or 100 year depends on the species when it's fully grown.

Urban environments may change bird songs

  1. Main idea –Bird songs may be changed by the urban surroundings.
  2. Tone – Informative and Serious. Because we may effect bird songs and their lifestyles.
  3. Organization – How is the news story organized?  2) One side of a controversy or issue is presented.
  4. Summary – Based on your answer for question 3, explain further. The problem is studied. The study about how the urban environment effects bird songs. Scientists found out that birds that live near urban surroundings have higher pitch and more narrow. Scientists are still researching that can birds in urban area find their love with their new "songs".

  1. Main idea – Websites are still not compatible with the new Ipad's resolutions.

Main ideas: the importance of communications
An old man was picking his pears. There was a little boy and he took a basket of pears without asking. When he took the basket back, he was tripped over by a rock. Some others kids nearby helped him pick up the pears falling out of the basket. The little boy gave a few pears to some other kids to thank them. The old man noticed that one of his baskets was gone, at that time, those kids walked by him with his pears on their hands. The old man thought those kids stole his pears.

  1. Main idea –Tech expert Katie Linendoll talks about the new Ipad.
  2. Tone – Exciting. She seems happy and excited in the video.

  4. SummaryBased on your answer for question 3, explain further.  Katie had a one week experience with the new Ipad. She suggested people that spend a lot of time with their Ipad to upgrade. The new Ipad has some new features: Retina display, 5 MP rear camera, 4G LTE capability, A5X processor and hotspot capability.

Kids’ reading scores jump

  1. Main idea – Kids' reading skills are more and more improved.
  2. Tone Informative and Optimistic.

  4. Summary –Teachers from Rhode Island is trying to improve their kids reading skills. The results came out really good. Over 8 months they improved 29 %. They encouraged teachers throughout the country to work hard to improve the students' problems.

CNN Comedy: Comic uses sign language

  1. Main idea –Adam Hills suggested people should use sign language in comedy.
  2. Tone – Happy and persuasive.

  4. Summary – Based on your answer for question 3, explain further. Adam Hill presented some of examples in sign language in many country. He suggested comedian to use more sign language in comedy. Then he kind of out of story about his foot, missing in a shark attack.

Spaceship house on a volcano

  1. Main idea – Visiting a volcano house in the California desert.

  4. Summary –The house is in mid way between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The house was built on top of a volcano. The house has view from everything directions. The house was approximated about 1600-1800 feet square. The house also constructed around the fireplace.
  5. Your opinion – Answer one of the following questions: 1) I was impressed by the title  2) The story is really interesting. it's a really funny place to build a house. It doesn't relate to any events that I have experienced in my life.

Listening report in class

  1. Main idea – This article show how science subjects are important in the future ?
  2. Tone – exciting .
  3. Organization –It started from a science fair of middle school students and later on some of the students explain their future city  .  Choose one of the following options:  3) There is no controversy in the report; something is described or talked about.
  4. Summary –  The reporter introduced to us a competition of middle school students about their future city and let some of the students explain their plans. This news story made me realize how important science subjects are in the future. Middle school students are really creative. And the last thing is the next generations should focus on science subjects, such as: math, physic, chemistry.

Listening Report week 3

Orange juice imports halted by FDA

  1. Main idea –Imported orange juice is banned by the Food and Drug Administration.
  2. Tone – Curious from the CBS central reporters and Informative from the Washington reporter. Reporters from the CBS central kept asking the other reporter from Washington.
  3. Organization – The news story organized through a conversation between the CBS reporters?  Choose one of the following options: . 2) One side of a controversy or issue is presented.
  4. Summary – Based on your answer for question 3, explain further.  The controversy is about the distribution of orange juice. The FDA banned all the imported orange juice because of chemical safety for consumers. Their is no risks founded in orange juice but the FDA have to test all the imported orange juice. Consumers  should buy organic orange juice for safety reason.
  5. Your opinion – Answer one of the following questions: 1) I want to know why the FDA banned all the imported orange juice.  Because I like orange juice  2) This story reminds me to be more careful when I chose orange juice.  This video affects my point of view about imported orange juice.

CNN Comedy: Chris Hardwick hates 3-D

  1. Main idea –Chris Hardwick hates 3-D
  2. Tone – Serious and frustrated.  Sharp voice and strong points.
  3. Organization –  2) One side of a controversy or issue is presented.
  4. Summary – Based on your answer for question 3, explain further. Chris Hardwich disagreed with new technology. There are no different views. He briefly brought us back to the past and compare it to the present. He gave out his point of view about 3-D. Then he explained how he hates it. He compared the development of technology from the past to the present.
  5. Your opinion – Answer one of the following questions: 1) I like to listen to something funny. Because I'm a big fan of comedy shows.  2) This audio only gave me Chris's thoughts.  It doesn't relate to any events that I have experienced in my life.  It  doesn't remind me of other events that I have learned about in the past.

  1. Main idea –this article is about a few Iranian scientist were killed and the conflict between the US and Iran.
  2. Tone –  informative, serious.The speakers sound pretty serious and gave me a lot of information.
  3. Organization –  3) There is no controversy in the report; something is described or talked about.
  4. Summary – First he gave me the information how the Iranian scientists were killed. And then he gave me a background of Iran's economic problems in 2009. Then he talked about the conflict between the US and Iran.

Your opinion – Answer one of the following questions: 1)Because it has an interesting topic.  Because it gives me more information about how the Iranian scientist was killed  2) Really political.
